National Chess Week Event

Join us for National Chess Week at our free event to to celebrate the "royal game" of chess.
All ages and skill levels are welcome.
​
The Manasota Chess Center will be sponsoring several chess activities at the Fruitville Library on Saturday, October 5th, from 12 noon to 4pm. On-site check-in will be from 11:45 am to 12:30pm. Chess sets and equipment will be available for the various activities.

Casual Chess Games (All ages)

Scholastic Chess Tournament (At least 7 years old. 4 rounds. Game in 15 minutes. Unrated)

Rapid Chess Tournament (All ages. 4 rounds. Game in 5 minutes with 5-second delay. Unrated)

Grandmaster Simultaneous Exhibition (Simul) - with Grandmaster (GM) Pascal Charbonneu. Test your chess skills and enjoy the experience of playing against a Grandmaster, the highest level achievable in the chess world.

GM Charbonneau, formerly from Canada, is now a Sarasota resident. By the time he was 22 years old, he had won the Canadian Chess Championship twice, and earned his Grandmaster title. Among his most notable chess victories was defeating former World Chess Champion Vishy Anand at the 37th Chess Olympiad.

My Chess Journey: Senior Master, Martyn Corden​​​​

Martyn was the Under 18 British Champion in 1969 and played for England in the Siegen Olympiad in 1970. Among his most impressive wins was beating former World Chess Champion, Grandmaster Vasily Smyslov in the 1969-70 Hastings Premier tournament.
