Join our Intro to Chess Group class, the perfect environment for beginners to learn and appreciate chess. By the end of the eight-session learn & play program, you will have all the tools to play meaningful games and compete with your friends and family. Choose the appropriate age-based group (two options for scholastic age brackets) or an adult group.

What Will I Learn?
Our Intro to Chess Group class is a customized learning experience based on the ChessKid curriculum and taught by US-Chess-certified coaches. The topics covered include, but are not limited to:

Special rules (castling, en passant, pawn promotion, statemate and draws)

Common Questions
Q: What is included in the class?
A: Each student will be provided with their own chess board, notation book, bound copy of the curriculum and learning materials, a Manasota Chess Center (MCC) membership, and an MCC branded t-shirt.
Q: How much does the class cost?
A: The class is $300 for the bundle of eight hour-and-a-half lessons with a US Chess certified coach, which includes all the above-mentioned materials as well supervised free play with other students during the class.
Q: Is there an age limit?
A: No, we offer three options for classes. A scholastic elementary class, a scholastic middle and high school class, and an 18 or older adult class.
Q: How good will I get at chess after the class?
A: The sky is the limit, and that will depend upon your interest and commitment, but the class will cover all the basic skills required to go to the next level.
