Intro to Chess Group Course
Join our popular Intro to Chess class, the perfect environment to learn and appreciate chess. By the end of the four session learn & play program, you will have all the tools to play meaningful games and compete with your friends and family. Each class is 2 hours long, and includes instruction, drills, and time to test your skills against an opponent. You will also receive a free chess board and pieces, along with a free copy of "The Ultimate Chess Method".​

What Will I Learn?
Our Intro to Chess Group course is a customized learning experience, based on a structured and progressive curriculum, and taught by US-Chess-certified coaches. The topics covered include, but are not limited to:

How the pieces move

The goal of the game (checkmate)

Special rules (castling, en passant, pawn promotion, stalemate and draws)

Basic strategy and tactics

Basic opening, middlegame, and endgame principles

Common Questions
Q: What is included in the course?
A: Each student will be given their own chess set, notation book, and bound copy of the curriculum and learning materials.

Q: How much does the course cost?
A: The course is $200 for the bundle of four 2-hour classes with lead coach Nick Lewis, which includes all the above-mentioned materials as well supervised free play with other students during the classes.

Q: Is there an age limit?
A: No, our Intro to Chess course is open to all ages...youth, adults and seniors.

Q: How good will I get at chess after the course?
A: The sky is the limit, and that will depend upon your interest and commitment, but the course will cover all the basic skills required to go to the next level.

Q: What happens if I miss a class?
A: Luckily, the instructor has made private YouTube videos for each class, which are only accessible through a special link. You can watch the content from any day that you miss, and feel rest assured that the instructor will be happy to go over concepts in person when you return!

Q: What is the refund policy? Can I join a class late?
A: The Manasota Chess Center offers prorated refunds through the first class. During that time, a student may withdraw for any reason and receive a prorated refund for the remaining classes. The refund period ends before the start of the second class.
