Why Chess?

Chess has been played for over 1500 years and is one of the most fascinating games in history. It has appeared in legends, made its way through wars, and has even been at the forefront of computer science for 50 years.  Whether you are a chess grandmaster, a scholastic student, or somebody learning to play for the first time, it offers a little something for everyone.

Chess has been proven to strengthen analytical skills, boost strategic thinking, and improve the ability to concentrate.  This has led many students to achieve higher academic test scores and achieve better scholastic performance overall.  Due to this fact, many colleges list college as a valuable extracurricular activity.

In addition to its cognitive impact, chess has been shown to enhance the ability to negotiate and to form meaningful relationships with people and communities.  The sportsmanship and competition involved at the board all translate into an environment where people can learn, compete and connect.
